El Perro y El Gato is an animated series that is typically seen in short segments between commercials originally airing on Jam, however, a longer half hour series also aired. The short segments began airing in 2003, with the half hour series beginning one year later in 2004. The half hour episodes are essentially compilations of the short segments.
The series still airs occasionally on HBO Family and previously aired on HBO Latino. DVDs of the show were also released in 2011. The show was produced by Primal Screen.
Synopsis[]
Each episode features Perro, translating the Dog, and Gato, the Cat, having independent adventures in different places. Perro is shown to be a hyperactive, joyful, and happy-excited-lucky chihuahua who knows a lot of Spanish, while Gato is a lazy, clumsy, food-loving feline who doesn't always understand Perro's Spanish sentences nor in English, however he appears to know Spanish (and English) himself too. Nevertheless, Perro translates his phrases in English.
The series teaches viewers basic Spanish words and phrases, which are said in English as well, or vice versa. Each episode ends with Perro going over the words again.

Trivia[]
- This is the second interstitial on HBO Family to have a TV show. The first interstitial to have one is 30 by 30: Kid Flicks.
- After this series ended in 2011, HBO Family wouldn't have another original series until Esme & Roy in 2018.
- DVDs for this show have been made and released in 2013, even though it's very uncommon to see HBO Family shows have home video releases (iTunes, Prime Video, Google Play, etc, except for HBO apps). The show is also available to buy on YouTube. This similarly happened to A Little Curious.
- Oddly, some if not most streaming services lack the show's first episode, including HBO Max.
- The title of this show translates to The Dog and The Cat.
- The show also occasionally caused the HBO Kids block to start around the 5:00 am time slot.
- HBO Kids also mistakenly rated the show TV-Y7, as the show is actually rated TV-Y.
- It was said the show had a Spanish dub (since it aired on HBO Latino), but it was basically the same English audio (Ironically, since this show teaches kids Spanish).
