Happy Palms' Finest is the 36th episode of the series George and Martha that aired on March 5, 2000. It's sister episode is The Argument.
Summary[]
One morning, Martha's alarm clock radio wakes her up, announcing a "police man for a day" contest that can win the duty of being a police officer in Happy Palms for a day. George appears to have won it, as he's dressed up as a police officer walking around the park, when he comes to Martha's house. He asks Martha for a glass of lemonade, which at first, Martha thinks is an actual officer, but George says it's just him. She claims she knew it was him all along. Martha creeps into the kitchen, and tells herself that she has to hide her baked cake and food that is in the kitchen or else she would be in trouble.
George decides to see what is going on, but the door opens on him. Martha tells him there's nothing she's hiding, and hurries along with a picnic basket. George wants to protect her as she walks, so Martha suggests so after saying no. The two walk in Happy Palms downtown, when Duke and Anton stop with balloons for something secret. George asks Anton for his bicycle license, which he digs out. George says that the bicycle license is expired and writes him a ticket. Duke thinks this is harsh, and so does Martha.
Oscar and Wilde see them, and run across the street. George writes two tickets for both of them for jaywalking across the street. Oscar and Wilde tell Martha that they will be late tonight for whatever the occasion is. George and Martha get to the store, where George sees "foul play" on aisle 6. Bud and Valarie have a race, and they both crash into George. He writes them both a ticket, which they have a laugh at. George sees Penny and Martha together talking, so he goes undercover and hides behind a shelf. He still can't hear them, so he climbs up the shelf which collapses. Penny is given a ticket for "gossiping". Martha tells him that she was not gossiping (surprisingly) and also refuses to tell him what she is up to. George waits for her outside the store, but she never comes out.
Curious to see what she's doing, George calls her at the telephone booth. While Martha picks up, she pretends to be an answering machine, making George suspicious. In reality, Martha is having a surprise party with her friends to celebrate George winning the police man contest. George arrives at Martha's house and hears the party going on without him, so he breaks the fence down to put an end to it. Everyone surprises him good. George thinks that he might've been too strict, but Martha knew he was just trying to do his job. George announces everyone to give back the tickets he wrote, and he rips them all up. He asks that everyone can have a turn riding in his cop car, but first Martha gets to go.
