Segments[]

Night Lights (Stop Motion)[]

Mary Jane and Lacey are going to sleep, and Mr. Shoe wishes them sweet dreams. As he leaves, they complain that it's too dark and tell him to leave the door open. But it's still too dark, so he switches on the night light. The girls still complain that it's too dark, so Mr. Shoe switches on their lava lamp, and then Mr. Twinkle. Mr. Shoe tells them it's time to put his "foot down" and leaves the room, as many lights are shining and flickering.

A Little Reality[]

Some toys and a puppy play in a room with sun light and stop when it's dark again.

Too Light! Too Dark! (CGI)[]

Mr. String is in a dark room with only his eyes visible, and worries that he'll turn into a bat for Halloween and asking for candy, and worrying that tomato farmers will go out of business due to nobody having room for vegetables. He switches the light back on and still complains that it's now too bright. Mr. String keeps switching the light on and off going "Ah! Too Light! Ah! Too Dark!"

A Little Reality[]

This live action segment showcases lots of neon lights, shown around in a big city.

Dark Chocolate (Oil Painting)[]

Little Cup appears on a table with chocolate milk inside of him, complete with a straw that Bob uses to drink out of him. There is a song sung by Pad and Pencil, and at the end of it, Bob exclaims "Mmmm, yummy!"

A Little Reality[]

Chocolate milk is made darker as more syrup pours in, then someone puts a straw in it to make bubbles.

Dark and Stormy Night (CGI)[]

Pad asks Pencil to tell her a story, which begins on a dark and stormy night, with dark clouds casting dark shadows. Pad tells him that the story is too gloomy and tells him to lighten up, which he answers that a kiss from her would lighten him up. After a few "gushes", Pencil resumes telling the story, when the sun comes up and causes the flowers to bloom. After the story, Pad hugs Pencil tightly, causing him to feel "lightheaded".

Bubble Love (Live Action/CGI blend)[]

Bob blows a bubble which causes him to follow it all around a live-action environment, such as streams, fields, and a playground. Eventually, it pops, which makes Bob feel sad, until another bubble comes floating by that he chases again.

Light Chocolate (Oil Painting)[]

A sequel to the "Dark Chocolate" segment, Little Cup makes lighter chocolate milk this time, as well as bubbles in the milk. This segment ends with Bob going "Ahh.." and blowing more bubbles in the milk.

Fish Bubbles (Stop Motion)[]

Mr. String finds a fishbowl with a Moorish idol inside, who he transforms into one and copies everything it does inside it's bowl. But when the fish jumps out of the bowl, Mr. String tries to copy him but ends up getting swished around. He laughs as the segment ends.

Light on Your Feet (Digital Cel)[]

Light as a Feather (Digital Cel)[]

Mr. String is up a tree branch and sees a feather floating in the air, with a chorus singing a song in the background. He transforms into a feather and floats into the air, until he realizes he's not a feather and is a string, and falls on the ground.

Trivia[]

  • As confirmed through the Library of Congress, this episode was produced as the third episode, despite having a copyright date of 1999.
    • As a result, "The Shoe Family" title card features a different voiceover than later episodes.
    • The short "Just Like Looking in a Mirror: Fish", which was reused and renamed to "Fish Bubbles" for this episode, originates from the series' pilot, which was aired after this episode.
  • According to the credits, Mop's song was not initially intended to be featured in this episode.
  • In the Night Lights segment, when Mr. Shoe turns on the Mr. Twinkle light, the light string turns into Mr. String for a quick second.
  • The part where Bob says, "Thank you, ladies and gentlemen!" in Bubble Love was used for an HBO Family promo from 1999, albeit shortened to "Thank you!". On a similar note, the scene at the end of He's a Plush (with a couple of characters singing beneath an enlarged Plush) was also used in the commercial.
  • The live action and CGI blend used in the short "Bubble Love" won't be used again until the series' final episode, A Little Curious About Life, for the "Full of Life" segment.
  • The word bubble would be focused again along with the words picture (from Rough, Smooth, Picture) and mirror (from Slippery, Sticky, Mirror) in Bubble, Picture, Mirror.
  • Just like in the previous episode, Bob only narrates two live-action segments, while the others are silent.
