Simon's Sleepover is the 17th episode of the series Esme & Roy that aired on October 6, 2018. Its sister episode is Take a Hike.
Summary[]
Esme sets Dumpling to sleep, with her bed and a picture of Esme and Roy. Suddenly, The MonsterCase announces that they are watching Simon, with him coming to them for the night.
They set up for an indoor campout, with stars, cutout scenery, and a campfire made from a lantern, toilet rolls & cardboard. When Simon arrives he is amazed, but according to Grammy, it's his first time having a sleepover & he is feeling a bit nervous. Esme reassures him that they'll have fun. Grammy leaves & Simon wants to do everything they offer. He rides in a pretend boat, looks at the hanging stars in a telescope, & eats s'mores until it's time for bed. When it's time for bed, they get into their sleeping bags. Simon doesn't want to hop into his as the room doesn't look like his room, nor does his sleeping bag look like his bed.
Esme tells him to get in his sleeping bag regardless, which comforts him after all. The lights go out after Esme,Roy & Simon saying good night to each other & Dumpling! Simon turns them back on because he can't sleep; & it's because he misses everything at his house. Esme suggests he could try cuddling with her stuffie, Fuzzy McWarrington; which temporarily relieves him. The lights go out again, but Simon turns them back on again because he always sleeps with his dog Willie & Fuzzy McWarrington isn't Willie. Dumpling, Roy & Esme then decide to do Simon's usual bedtime routine at their place. First, Grammy always gives him a six-arm hug. It doesn't work because Esme & Roy together have four arms. Next, Grammy always reads him the same book: "The Little Swoozle That Could" before bed. Because they don't have the book, Roy tries making things up, but it isn't the same. Lastly, Willie always gives Simon a big slobbery kiss good night. Dumpling tries to give him a smooch, but it still doesn't work because it's not slobbery enough. Simon thanks his Monstersitters & Dumpling for trying, but he still feels homesick & wants to head home! Simon then starts sobbing & this becomes his Monster Meltdown.
Esme gives him the glitter jar to shake. Simon feels better, but he would still love to head back to his place. Roy wishes that they could bring everything from Simon's place to theirs, but Esme has an idea when she sees a tree knocked down. The duo tell Simon that they could draw pictures of all the things he misses from his place & hang it up on a tree, making a "Me Tree". Simon does it & feels better, and they go to sleep. Esme turns the lantern on to check on Simon. She tells Roy how well the Me Tree worked, but Roy is snoring off.
