Garrett's Gift[]

Through animation and a wide variety of music, the two "Sweet Blackberry Presents" specials tell lesser-known stories about historical African-Americans in order to promote the culture and give children new heroes to identify with. A group of children listen to the stories as told by Alfre Woodard and Queen Latifah.

"Sweet Blackberry Presents: Garrett's Gift," the second of the two stories, is introduced by author, Karyn Parsons and narrated by the Oscar®-, Emmy®- (for her work in HBO's Life Support) and Golden Globe®-nominated actress and performer, Queen Latifah. Day-dreamer Garrett Morgan was always trying to come up with great new inventions, but it wasn't until he witnessed an accident in the big city that he decided to create a traffic light. By following Garrett on his journey to find his calling, children will see that some paths to success are more indirect than others.
