The Hypnotist is the 25th episode of the series George and Martha that aired on June 20, 1999. It's sister episode is The Sweet Tooth.

Summary[]

Martha watches television, where there is a commercial about hypnotism. The reptile on TV hypnotizes an ostrich and gets her to cluck like a chicken, and also gets it's neck tied up in a knot. George comes in and says that it doesn't really work in real life, it's just an act. Martha is mesmerized by the Hipp-No-Power product and tells George that she doesn't care, and she'll buy it anyway. George is certain this is a waste of money, but it's Martha's money anyway.

Frieda arrives with Martha's package, which Penny spots as she hides behind a tree. Martha takes the swirly Hipp-No-Power pendant out and Penny comes over, thinking it is a necklace from her secret admirer. Martha says it is magic, and tells her to watch the pendant as it swirls, and she gets hypnotized. Martha tells Penny to quack and moo, which she does. George comes and is amazed. Martha tells Penny to tie her legs into a knot, then wakes her up from the trance. George jokingly asks Penny what happened to her legs, and she guesses that she tied them up while doing yoga, unaware of what actually happened.

Inside, George states that not everybody can be hypnotized, such as himself for one. Martha gives it a shot, even though George thinks she will be wasting her time, but he falls in her command easily. First he meows like a cat, brays like a donkey, and honks like a goose, then Martha wakes him up. But when she hits him in the head with the pendant, he doesn't get out of his trance no matter how hard she hits him. George hears honking outside from flying geese. When Martha gets back with her saxophone, he had left the window.

George runs after the geese outside, and Martha also runs out. Penny finally unties her legs and she is asked by Martha if he had seen George, who tells her the weird George. George honks to the park and is mesmerized by a goat's popcorn that he was feeding to the ducks. He throws it in the water, and George dives in resulting in all the water, and ducks, to fly out. George starts climbing up a radio tower where some geese are circling by, and Martha comes by. She also climbs up and has a bag of popcorn. She also finally gets him awake and gives him the popcorn. Martha apologizes, but George says he can't be hypnotized unaware that he was. He claims that they are only high in the air because he likes watching the sunset from a high place. She gives George the pendant, and they watch the sunset while eating popcorn.
