Summary[]
George and Martha, plus others, are at the Happy Palms Cafe. George eats his bowl of spaghetti, splatting some tomato sauce on Martha, even. He says that the spaghetti reminds him of an icky story, and begins, even though Martha is a bit dissatisfied. There was a pile of worms when a bird who spotted a tasty worm, so he gobbled it up whole, although the worm didn't want to go down. Martha tells him that he "asked for it", then starts her own story, about a flea that ate and ate that he became so fast and bloated, while putting some pepper into her salad, and popping out a big tomato. George turns green, and comes out of a window for a breather.
At Oscar and Wilde's bookstore, Wilde introduces the two hippos to his cousin, Icky, who is signing copies of his 100 Ickiest Stories book. Icky is the youngiest ickiest storyteller ever, claiming that he grossed out half the country, and he's in town for the icky story competition, but they can't find anybody to take Icky on. He signs George's copy, but Martha is hesitant to get her's signed. George tells Icky that she has icky stories of her own, so Icky is willing to hear them. Martha refuses, but she tells him that she is ready to take him on at the competition.
Martha insists that they do some training. So she and George hike up the stairs to a very tall hill with a donut shop at the top. Martha is energized, but George is beat. Martha chomps on the donuts, not letting George have one, and tells him to read the ickiest stories in the book. George reads that while Icky was having a milkshake, he found something floating that looked really disgusting. George turns green in the face and runs off, although Martha reads it and doesn't find it so bad. Later, a TV crew interviews Icky, who isn't at all discouraged at this competition nor Martha.
Martha tells George to go, as she has to practice her icky stories and doesn't want him to be sick. The next morning, Martha is in bed, stating that she practiced her stories all night, that she made herself sick. George doesn't think that Icky will stay the champ. At the Community Center, Icky waits for Martha, with George arriving right before the absent participant is disqualified. Icky at first says it is against the rules, but he still vows to take on George. Icky begins a story about a flea who became so fat and bloated that he became a tasty treat, and devours a tomato. It's now George's turn, but he sneezes and blows lots of air, throwing Icky down. George is declared a winner. He thanks Martha, who is listening on the radio. Later, Martha finds George on his roof, who is looking for his balloon. Martha warns him that it's high and he could fall from a long way down. George doesn't fall for her "trick", until a hot air balloon causes him to fall down. George says that he flew. Martha thinks it's wonderful that she's friends with someone who made history, but tells him not to do that trick again.
