The Mirror is the ninth episode of the series George and Martha that aired on April 25, 1999. It's sister episode is The Special Gifts.

Summary[]

George, at an arcade, gets in front of a kid bear at a basketball game and begins throwing the balls in the hoop, making a perfect shot every time. The littler animals are amazed. Martha comes in and drags George away, reminding him that they are there at the outdoor mall to shop, but George shows Martha his tokens and wants to win more, so he runs along while Martha goes by herself.

Martha finds a stand where a llama named Dolly is talking to a few customers about in order to love yourself, the first thing one should love is their face, so she advertises her videos for sale. Dolly picks Martha to come up and look at herself in her mirror, asking her to tell her what she sees inside herself. She also says to Martha that she has a gorgeous face and that she has to spend some with herself, not one moment with anyone else. The customers, as well as Martha, buy a video. George tries to show Martha the paint kit that he won with all his tokens, but she slightly ignores him and runs home.

At home, Martha puts the video in and Dolly tells her to go in front of a mirror, with her full body showing, and she must tell herself how gorgeous she is. While George is painting his picture, Martha calls him, saying that he must come over as she feels like a whole different person. George, while didn't want to, comes over to her house. He seems a bit puzzled while looking in the mirror, but Martha tells him to look inside himself, not just at himself, then puts on the video again while George goes back home. After finishing his masterpiece, he calls Martha and suggests they go out as he's famished. Martha says she can't, as she just discovered her left nostril.

While the two walk in town, figuring out where they should go to eat, Martha cannot stop looking at herself in the shop windows, and even the window in front of the bus. When they get to a dining spot, their waiter Wendy discusses to Martha about the Dolly program that she also happens to be taking, and Wendy considers herself gorgeous too. When Martha gets her soup, she would rather look at it instead of eat it, and Martha relentlessly spends the rest of the night looking at herself. George has to put a stop to this, so he spends all night painting a portrait that he tapes to Martha's mirror. When Martha puts the tape on, Dolly congrats her for completing the program, and Martha has a fit when she sees her green, disgusting self in the mirror. George unveils himself and chucks the tape out the window, making Martha realize that she had been too carried away. She learns that she is already beautiful as herself.
