The Sore Loser is the 48th episode of the series George and Martha that aired on April 22, 2000. Its sister episode is The Play's the Thing.
Summary[]
George and Martha play chess. George says that he got her now, but Martha declares checkmate and wins, annoying George. He calls chess a dumb game and gets out checkers instead. George warns her as checkers are his specialty, but after stomping the piece on the board, Martha wins again, saying that checkers must be her specialty, too.
They then play tabletop tennis, and Martha wins again after George gets tiresome. She is also good at tic-tac-toe and basketball. George then decides that he has had enough of games, and says that he's going to have fun with his own ball himself after Martha asks if she can still play with it. Martha then plays with a boomerang, when Oscar and Wilde come by questioning where George is. Martha mentions that he is sulking at home because he's a sore loser, but it's not her fault that she wins all the games they play. They mention to her that she should let him win a game, but Martha thinks it's not fun as they are competing. Though, Oscar has one game that he thinks not even George could resist, croquet.
The three play outside Martha's yard and George can't resist but look outside when he hears the excitement going on. He talks to himself about Oscar's wrong position before hitting the ball, mentioning he could've hit that shot when Oscar misses. Martha mentions out loud how a wonderful croquet player George is, which more or less gets him to come out. Oscar mentions that he and her play a 1-on-1 game while he and Wilde watch. George goes first and gets to get another shot. Martha goes next, but the ball hits the tree and into the tulips. George goes next, as he is in the lead. Martha hits again, but the ball lands in the birdbath. George takes another turn, and with one more shot, he wins the game.
George is amazed at how bad Martha is playing, then comes to the conclusion that Martha is just playing badly on purpose. So, he hits the ball and it hits a tree, bumping and bouncing onto the street. Martha quietly says to Oscar that she thinks he's onto their plan and just did that shot on purpose. She decides to show him who's the lousiest player and hits the ball into the sky. The two recover their balls and hit them at a picnic, in the pool, and up a tree. The two make it up to a radio tower. Oscar and Wilde, who had been chasing them around, ask if they could just win the game already. The two hit the balls, and it lands right into Martha's backyard. Martha hits George's ball, and because his ball hit the stake, he wins. George doesn't care whether they win or lose, and they just had fun. George and Martha then do a 2-on-3 game.
